Financial Anxiety Among Caregiving Parents of Adult Children with a Substance Use Disorder

Substance use is a growing concern in the United States, with widespread harms, including substantial costs to individuals, families, and societies, poor outcomes for substance user, deleterious impacts on family community. When young adult develops disorder, parent or other loved one often assumes caregiving role, experiences burdens associated this role emotional well-being financial stability. The present study examined of anxiety sample (n = 172) caregivers adults disorder recruited from online person treatment support groups. Regression analyses results indicated that experienced anxiety, personal depression, as well multiple attempts not financially covered by insurance, contributed reports anxiety. Implications counselors, payers are discussed.
